Curated by Dr. Helena Pereña, the solo-exhibition STOPOVER is based on extensive research into the layered history of Goethestraße 54 in Munich, the interim location of VILLA STUCK, with a focus on the period when the ground floor housed Pension Patria — a “forced accommodation” for Jewish families during the Nazi era. The exhibition explores this significant chapter through Ilit Azoulay’s film HILDEGARD, a fictional documentary about Hildegard Musch, the owner of the boarding house, as well as photomontages, research material and found objects discovered during the building’s recent renovation. The works invite viewers to reflect on the hidden stories and complex history of the building, where past and present converge in a space of memory and transformation.
